BAG PACKAGING GLOSSARY

Auto-fill bags - manufactured to work with automatic bagging equipment and semi-automatic bag equipment.

Back Seal - Poly sheeting is folded and sealed along back to form a tube and sealed at the bottom.

Bottom Gusseted Bag - This style bag has been made with a tucked in pleat at the bottom and pressed flat. Allows the bag to expand providing the bag with greater capacity.

Bottom Seal Bag - This bag is made from seamless poly tubing then cut at desired lengths.  The bottom of the poly tubing length is then heat sealed forming  a bag.

Bubble Bags - Air bubble cushioning sheets sealed on the sides to form a bag. Bubble bags can be made with bubble inside the bag or bubble outside.

Co- polymer film bags with 2-1/2 to 3% EVA  - FDA approved.  Possesses excellent seal ability, cold strength and impact resistance.  

Co- polymer film bags with 7-1/2 to 8% EVA - FDA approved.  Superior impact resistance and toughness.  

Die Cut Handle - Poly bags with a large hole at the top of the bag that is use to carry the bag. Handles can be reinforced and come in different shapes.

Door Knob Bag - Staple Packs or Wicket Bags with a die cut hole at the top. Commonly used to promote products and services to consumers.

Flap-lock Bag - Made with a flip over top and cuff front to quickly tuck flap in the cuff to close the bag.

Gusseted Bag - This style bag has been made with a tucked in pleat  and pressed flat. Allows the bag to expand providing the bag with greater capacity.

Header bags - Side weld bags with a continuous seal along the width 2-3" below the fold that creates a header on which the bag will hang.

Header Pack Bags - Bags have a perforated lip for easy tear off and are stapled together at the top with a chipboard head.  

Ice Bags - These poly bags have had ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and fractional melt added to the polyethylene resin base to provide increase puncture resistance and strength in freezing temperatures. See: Co-polymer films.

Leak Proof Bags - Polyethylene leak proof bags are manufactured with a special EVA additive and extra seal strength.

Lemo Seal Bags - Poly Bags with leak-proof side seals.

Moisture Barrier Bags - Made from metalized polyester that offers positively dry packaging for moisture sensitive products and is vacuum sealable. 

Padded Poly Bags - Made with a slit front and stapled to a chipboard header for quicker and easier loading.

Perforated Lip - Bags are stapled to a cardboard header and perforated just below the header for easy tear off.  Used in semi-automatic bag opening machines and packing stations.

Perforated Poly Bags on a  Roll - Made from a continuous roll of tubing sealed and perforated at specified lengths for easy tear off. Used on semi-automatic bag opening machines.

Pocket Bags - Bags that are sealed into separate pouches for multiple product packaging

Polypropylene Bags - High clarity bags that also provide protective barrier against moisture and vapors. Delays evaporation and dehydration of food products that are sealed in polypropylene bags. This crystal clear poly ideally suited for packaging photos, candies, and other items for display.

Pre-opened Bags-on-a-Roll - Bags are connected to other bags by a perforation and one side of the bag has been opened allowing very fast loading of products into the bag.

Sealed Header Bags - Eliminates the need for a cardboard header.  See Header Bags.

Side Gusseted Bag - A bag with a pleated fold on each side to allow for greater capacity.

Side Weld - Bags made from folded Polyethylene sheeting, sealed a each side. 

Shrink Bags - PVC or Polyolefin Shrink tubing cut and bottom sealed to form a bag. 

Static Shield Bags - A Faraday cage affect of  metalized bag that provides a static safe environment for sensitive electronic devices. 

Thumb-Notch - A half moon shape is cut in the center of the bag opening allowing easy access to bag contents.

Wicketed - Side-seal bag with two holes punched at the lip. A metal wicket is then inserted in the lip to hold a pack of bags together. Used on automatic and semi-automatic bag filling equipment.  

Vacuum Bags - Bags made for use in the food industry.

Vented Bags - Any style bag with a hole punched within the body of the bag.  Allows air to escape the bag.
